Matt Murton, an American with the Osaka Hanshin Tigers baseball team, broke famed Ichiro Suzuki’s record for the most hits in a single season in Japanese Professional Baseball. The day Murton broke the record, which also happened to be his birthday, he was interviewed after the game on the baseball field. When asked if he would like to give a final comment to his fans he said “Kami sama wa Watashi no chikara” (神様は私の力です) which translates “God is my strength”.
Murton was recently featured in a special edition of the magazine Sankei Sports (サンケイスポーツ) in which his baseball career is highlighted and he shares more about his Christian faith and gratitude in God for making this success in Japan possible.
In God’s providence, Murton’s record breaking game happened right before the Franklin Graham Festival that took place in Osaka the following month. Franklin Graham is one of the most well known Christian evangelist in America, below was Murton’s invitation to his fans in Japan to join him at this event.
